Ernie the Elephant and Martin the Monkey were best friends. They loved to play together, go on adventures, and tell each other stories. But there was one thing they couldn't agree on: bedtime.

Ernie was a big elephant, and he loved to sprawl out in bed. Martin was a small monkey, and he liked to curl up in a ball. So when it was time for bed, they always had a hard time finding a comfortable position to sleep in.

One night, after a long day of playing, Ernie and Martin were getting ready for bed. As usual, they started to argue about who would sleep on the top and who would sleep on the bottom.

"I should sleep on the top," said Ernie. "I'm bigger than you, and I need more space."

"No, I should sleep on the top," said Martin. "I'm smaller than you, and I'll fall off if I sleep on the bottom."

They argued for a long time, but they couldn't agree. Finally, they were both so tired that they decided to just go to sleep.

Ernie climbed onto the top of the bed and Martin curled up on the bottom. But they were both so uncomfortable that they couldn't fall asleep.

After a while, Ernie started to snore. Martin tried to ignore it, but he couldn't. The snoring was so loud that it was shaking the bed.

Martin got so annoyed that he finally had to say something. "Ernie," he said. "You're snoring. It's keeping me awake."

Ernie opened one eye. "I can't help it," he said. "I'm a big elephant. I snore."

"Well, you're going to have to stop," said Martin. "I can't sleep with all this noise."

Ernie sighed. "I'll try," he said. "But I can't make any promises."

Ernie closed his eye and tried to control his snoring. But it was no use. He snored even louder than before.

Martin was so frustrated that he got out of bed and went to sleep on the floor.

The next morning, Ernie woke up and saw that Martin was sleeping on the floor. He felt bad that he had kept Martin awake with his snoring.

"Martin," he said. "I'm sorry I kept you awake last night. I didn't mean to."

"That's okay," said Martin. "I'm just glad you're not snoring anymore."

"I'm going to try to be quieter tonight," said Ernie.

That night, Ernie and Martin went to bed early. They both climbed into bed and got comfortable.

Ernie closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He was determined to be quiet tonight.

Martin closed his eyes and listened. He could hear Ernie breathing softly.

Martin smiled. Ernie was really trying to be quiet.

Martin drifted off to sleep, and soon Ernie was asleep too.

They both slept soundly all night long. When they woke up in the morning, they were both refreshed and happy.

"That was the best night's sleep I've had in a long time," said Martin.

"Me too," said Ernie. "I'm glad I was able to be quiet."

Ernie and Martin learned that night that they could share bedtime if they were willing to compromise. They also learned that it's important to be considerate of others, even when you're tired.

Ernie and Martin continued to be best friends for many years. They always shared bedtime, and they always made sure to be considerate of each other.
